ORANGE INFUSED HOT CHOCOLATE

ORANGE INFUSED HOT CHOCOLATE

For all you orange lovers out there, this is the easiest, most decadent hot chocolate you can imagine.

With just a few ingredients, and relying on quality ingredients, you can whip up this indulgent treat in 10 minutes. Snuggle in, and enjoy.

I've used thickened cream, which makes it more luxurious and indulgent, but you can you use single cream if you'd prefer. This will make around 550+ml of this very rich drinking chocolate which is 2 large mugs, or 4 smaller sensible portions - it's up to you!

INGREDIENTS

Serves 2-4

200g thickened cream

400g milk

100g dark couverture chocolate (finely chopped or flaked)

1 orange

optional to serve:

whipped cream

cocoa powder

METHOD

Rinse the outside of the orange.

Bring cream almost to the boil, in a saucepan.

Finely grate the orange skin (microplane is best) into the hot thickened cream in the saucepan (don’t grate past the coloured peel, the white pith is very bitter). Stir, then sit for 5-10 mins.

Pass cream through sieve to remove orange peel, then place strained cream in clean saucepan.

Add the milk, stir, and bring to almost boiling point again.

Add the chocolate, stir with a whisk, pour into cups, enjoy! Optional: top all or any of whipped cream, more chocolate curls, and a tiny bit more zest of fresh orange and a sprinkle of cocoa powder.

SWITCH IT UP:

SPICY: Sprinkle the hot chocolate, or whipped cream, with a mixture of equal quantities of caster sugar and cinnamon mixed together

BOOZY: Add a shot of orange liqueur like Cointreau or Grand Marnier to the finished hot chocolate in your cup, mix through and enjoy the extra orange warmth!
